Reterra ReDesign Apartment Configurator
The Reterra ReDesign configurator, built on the Wabric platform, now lets homebuyers make visual finishing and kitchen choices in real time, while Reterra's team manages the entire catalog independently and exports builders' data with one click, saving an estimated 60,000 euros per year in manual work.
Reterra
Reterra is one of Estonia's largest real estate developers, active since 2015 with residential and commercial projects in Tallinn, Tartu, and Riga. In ten years the company has created close to 1,000 new homes and manages 70,000 m² of commercial space with tenants like Telia and Pipedrive. Every apartment Reterra sells comes with dozens of finishing decisions per buyer: flooring, wall finishes, kitchen types, fixtures, hardware. Multiply that across hundreds of apartments per development, and interior finishing data becomes a full-scale data management problem.
Every Finishing Change Took Months and a Full-Time Employee
The Core Problem: Reterra had no control over its own finishing data, and the manual process of compiling it consumed an entire full-time role.
Before ReDesign, interior finishing choices lived in a WordPress-based tool never designed for developments of this scale, backed by large manually maintained Excel spreadsheets. The team could adjust product prices, but any change to finishing plans, products, or drawings had to be delegated to external partners.
- Change cycles ran in months. Updating a drawing or adding a product meant waiting on an outside partner, which slowed down sales and pre-construction preparation across entire developments.
- One full-time employee tied up in manual compilation. Building the apartment-by-apartment material sheets for builders was continuous hand work.
- Constant risk of data entry errors. Every manual transfer between the tool, spreadsheets, and builder documents was a chance to ship the wrong finish to the wrong apartment.
- No real self-service for buyers. Choices were form-based, with no visual feedback on what the finished apartment would actually look like.
A Real-Time Visual Configurator for Homebuyers
Our Goal: Give Reterra's project managers full independent control over finishing data, and give apartment buyers a visual, real-time way to design their home.
Reterra ReDesign is a two-part application built on Wabric: a buyer-facing configurator and a backoffice for Reterra's team. A deliberate design decision drives the whole product: instead of slow and expensive 3D models, the configurator renders prepared 2D imagery layer by layer, which keeps it fast, affordable to build, and equally sharp on desktop and mobile.
Here is how it works:
- A logical selection flow. The buyer moves through development → building → apartment → finishing package → apartment-wide choices → room-by-room choices, including a dedicated kitchen configurator, and ends at a summary with full price breakdown.
- Layer-based live visuals. Selected products render as image layers on top of each room's base view in real time. Rooms can have multiple views, kitchens have their own, and images open in full view.
- Choices inherit intelligently. Package defaults flow down to apartment-wide choices, which flow down to room-level overrides. Switching packages shows the price difference immediately and warns before overwriting saved choices.
- Incompatible combinations are impossible. A restrictions system works on two levels: product-level either/or choices (bathtub or shower wall) and variation-level rules that grey out incompatible options the moment a conflicting variation is selected.
- Quantities calculate themselves. Square-meter products calculate from floor area or wall dimensions, linear-meter products like skirting from room perimeter. Manual entries override the automatic figures when needed.
- Real-time pricing with VAT handled properly. Every choice recalculates the total instantly. Buyers see the VAT-inclusive final price, the backoffice shows project managers the net price, and the generated PDF breaks VAT out on its own line. The VAT rate is a system setting, not hardcoded.
- Locking with immutable snapshots. Finishing and kitchen choices lock separately, each on its own date. Locking permanently fixes the final configuration and its prices. When a project manager locks a configuration, the buyer's app switches to view mode instantly, without a page refresh.
- Summary, PDF, and sharing. Buyers download or email a full PDF of their choices, upload their own files, share configurations by link, and manage everything from a "My Homes" view.
A Backoffice That Ends the Dependence on External Partners
The backoffice is where Reterra's admins and project managers control everything the buyer sees: projects, buildings, floors, apartments, and rooms; apartment, room, and kitchen type templates where one change propagates to every linked unit; the full product catalog with variations, prices, packages, and restrictions; floor plans, room views, and legends; and users, roles, and permissions.
Two automations remove the heaviest manual work:
- One-click builders' Excel export. Generates a complete construction data workbook straight from the locked configurations: each building on its own sheet, apartments as rows, selected products as columns, with status, package, and price columns included. Sample configurations can be auto-created for unsold apartments so the export is always complete.
- AI-assisted floor plan import. An external floor plan parser reads uploaded PDF floor plans and detects apartments and rooms. Project managers review and correct a preview before anything touches the system, then confirm to create the structure automatically. Re-running an import never creates duplicates.
Buyers sign in with email, Google, or Apple, and the system sends finishing submissions and PDFs by email automatically.
An Estimated 60,000 Euros Per Year in Manual Work, Automated
- One full-time employee's workload removed. The automated builders' Excel export replaces the manual compilation of construction data sheets, an estimated saving of around 5,000 euros per month, up to 60,000 euros per year.
- ROI in one to two years. Faster apartment sales through the digital configurator put the estimated payback period for the whole system at one to two years.
- Data entry errors eliminated at the source. Builders' Excel sheets and apartment PDF room cards generate directly from locked configurations, so nothing is retyped by hand and nothing can be mistranscribed.
- Months became minutes. Changes that previously went through external partners and took months now go live the moment a project manager saves them in the backoffice.
The Human Impact
Reterra's project managers now own their own system: they add and change products, prices, drawings, and colors themselves, in real time, without external partners. Buyers design their own home visually from any device, on their own schedule, instead of filling in forms with no picture of the result. Builders receive clean, complete, machine-generated data instead of hand-compiled spreadsheets.
What's next:
Reterra plans to extend the system with digital signing of finishing agreements directly in the platform, a dedicated builder role with scoped access, and deeper product logic including conditional images, module linking, and context-based pricing.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Reterra ReDesign configurator do?
Reterra ReDesign is an interior finishing configurator for apartment buyers, built on the Wabric platform. Buyers select their development, building, and apartment, then make visual finishing and kitchen choices room by room with real-time pricing, and submit a locked configuration with an automatically generated PDF to the developer.
How does Reterra get construction data to builders from the configurator?
When a buyer's configuration is locked, Reterra ReDesign saves an immutable record of every product, quantity, and price. A one-click export generates a builders' Excel workbook directly from these records, with each building on its own sheet and apartments as rows, so no data is ever retyped by hand.
Can a configurator like this be built for other real estate developers?
Yes. Wabric is a CPQ and PIM platform for configurable products, and the same approach works for any residential developer offering finishing choices: a visual buyer-facing configurator, a backoffice for full catalog and pricing control, compatibility rules to prevent invalid combinations, and automated data exports for construction teams.
